Fun Weekend (or any day) Activities for kids and parents in Ulster County, in the beautiful Catskill Mountains
Whether you’re visiting for the weekend, or you’re fortunate enough to call Ulster County home, there are plenty of things to do for the whole family. On sunny days, the Forsyth Nature Center on Lucas Avenue in Kingston, http://www.forsythnaturecenter.org/ , is a great outing for younger kids. Get there early and visit the free animal exhibit and garden center.
Bring those bananas that are a little too brown, or that lettuce that nobody is going to eat, because the goats, llamas, peacocks and sheep will be happy to munch from little ones’ hands.
Afterwards, there is a large playground, ball fields, tennis courts and a covered pavilion. Go to the Nature Center’s website for information on their Summer Junior Naturalist Programs, but hurry up, class sizes are extremely limited.
When Mother Nature is less cooperative, there are still ways to have fun in the Catskills with kids, head on over to Wood ‘N Wheel, on Route 9W in Port Ewen, www.woodnwheel.com/. A roller skating rink, with lots of extras, this place probably looks exactly like the rink you went to when you were a kid. The wheeled supports for new skaters are a great touch.
If you’re feeling generous, or you visit for a special occasion, bring a few extra bucks for the Gyroscope or moving rock climbing wall.
If you and your kids have so much fun in the Catskills that you decide you never want to leave visit our website to view available properties in the Catskills.

Don’t forget about Skate Time 209 or the Edible Mini Golf course with the world’s largest garden gnome at Kelder’s You Pick. They are right near each other in Accord on route 209.
